BOTOX® Specialist Dr. Malhotra

If you're concerned that your wrinkles and fine lines are making you look aged, tense, or tired, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be perfect for you. Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. Malhotra, a BOTOX® specialist, has helped countless Ann Arbor and Jackson women and men refresh and rejuvenate their appearance with this simple, safe treatment.

Frown lines, crow's feet, forehead creases, lip lines, marionette lines. You've heard the terms and perhaps seen these lines on your own face, but do you know that most of these kinds of lines and wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contraction of certain facial muscles? By inactivating those muscles, BOTOX® can lead to smoother-looking skin, helping you look more well rested, relaxed, and youthful.

Trying to decide between Dysport® and BOTOX®? Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery offers both injectables as treatments for wrinkles, and the team is used to patients curious about the difference between the two. Both prescription cosmetics are considered neurotoxins, since their active ingredient is botulinum toxin type A. BOTOX® and Dysport® work by blocking signals sent by the brain to command certain muscles to contract. When these contractions happen on the forehead or other areas of the face, they can create pronounced wrinkles. Temporarily preventing the chemical messages from being received also temporarily reduces the appearance of these wrinkles, which can also appear on the side of the eyes. BOTOX® is the most popular such injectable cosmetic, and it also has a range of medical uses to help with everything from controlling migraine symptoms to preventing unwanted muscle spasms. BOTOX® has also been approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and is ideal for treating deep wrinkles. Dysport® is a newer neurotoxin in the industry, where it's come to be known as the choice for people who may be seeking to treat wrinkles over a larger area due to the fact that it "spreads" more than BOTOX®. Whichever you choose, it's important to receive your injections from an experienced, certified, and trained medical professional working in a practice with an established reputation.

BOTOX® is widely available in Michigan, but not everyone administers it well. Although it can be a simple procedure, outstanding aesthetic results require precision and skill to avoid an unnatural look. Dr. Malhotra's approach to BOTOX® for all his Michigan patients is skilled and sensible: He believes that the ideal treatment achieves a balance between softening wrinkles and preserving your own natural facial expression.

Why wait? Turn back the hands of time during your lunch hour. To schedule an appointment for your BOTOX® treatment, call our Ann Arbor office at (734) 913-5100 or our Jackson office at (517) 789-9800, or request a consultation online.

The Procedure

In our Jackson and Ann Arbor offices, BOTOX® is administered after a numbing cream is applied to the injection site. A special, ultra-thin needle is used to reduce any discomfort. For the first treatment with BOTOX®, most of our Michigan patients are surprised to find that it is easier and more comfortable than they initially thought. Often your first injection will require more medication than repeat injections, and its effects will last approximately 3 months. As Dr. Malhotra gets to know each individual, he frequently uses a little less medication for subsequent injections, and the interval between treatments can lengthen to 4 to 6 months.

Best Injection Sites

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments may improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the top portion of the face. Eyes, forehead, upper lip, and nose are among the most responsive injection sites. The eye area is also so responsive to treatments that it can be used for a non-surgical eyebrow lift. An educated and skilled BOTOX® specialist like Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. Malhotra can lift the tail of your eyebrow a few millimeters without surgery.

BOTOX® treatments address many problem areas that can make people look aged, tense, or tired:

  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Forehead wrinkles or creases
  • Crow's feet around the outer eye corners
  • Vertical lines on the upper lip
  • Prominent jaw muscles (Masseter), which give the face a square look

These areas can be made smooth again through one quick, simple procedure in our Jackson or Ann Arbor office. BOTOX® works by relaxing the muscles responsible for facial expression. Treatments typically last for 3 to 4 months; however, many patients choose to receive them less frequently. While your face is one of your most prominent means of non-verbal communication, expressions like the furrowing of the brows can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Relaxing these muscles can virtually erase these lines. And, although the medication is mainly used to erase wrinkles, people as young as their 20s are now using it as a preventive measure against future wrinkles.

Is BOTOX® Safe for Our Ann Arbor and Jackson Patients?

BOTOX® is perfectly safe for most candidates. Patients who elect to receive BOTOX® in our Michigan offices understand that it is not a permanent procedure, and they may have to return for repeated treatments to achieve their desired result. Also, they understand that because it is a non-surgical treatment, they have realistic expectations of what it can and cannot do for them. After 2 years, patients find that they can decrease the frequency of their injections. To discuss your individual situation, schedule an appointment with Dr. Malhotra, a Jackson and Ann Arbor BOTOX® specialist.
