Face Lift
Aging is inevitable, but the signs of it don't have to be. If you would like to improve sagging skin, tighten loose skin around the neck, tighten underlying facial muscles, and appear youthful and refreshed, consider a face lift procedure. At our practice, we design a custom procedure for you to address the areas that you would most like to improve.

Selecting Your Surgeon
- Many people come to our practice who want a little more than a mini-facelift but not quite a full facelift. In about 80% of our procedures, we can extend the mini lift incision to treat both the face and the neck.
- Talk to your surgeon about all anesthesia options. Some of these procedures can be done in the office under local anesthesia (like the dentist's injections), conscious sedation, or full anesthesia. Often these options allow a facelift procedure to fit into many different budgets.
- When people think of facelifts, they think of Hollywood celebrities and $25,000 price tags. In reality, most procedures range from $5,000 to $11,000 including all fees.
- Choose a surgeon that specializes in facelift surgery. Often surgeons with facial plastic surgery backgrounds perform these procedures with added finesse.

Benefits
At Dr. Malhotra's practices in Ann Arbor and Jackson, Michigan, a face lift can also be combined with a neck lift or chin and cheek liposuction in Michigan for more sculpted facial contours. Common benefits of a face lift procedure may include:
- Removal of excess fat and skin
- Tightening of the underlying facial muscles
- Smoothing of loose skin on the face and neck
There are several different face lift techniques that can be employed. Patients should discuss with their physician which method will maximize their outcome while minimizing face lift cost and recovery.
Insider Tips
For women and men considering a face lift procedure, below are some insider tips:
- This procedure can be done under local anesthetic, like the dentist, but a better option is to use a little sedation to make you sleepy.
- Ask your doctor about tumescent anesthesia for your face lift. This technique reduces bruising, pain, and swelling dramatically. Our patients have very little downtime using this technique.
- Avoid the "wind tunnel" look by having a SMAS face lift in addition to skin tightening. This involves tightening the tissue below the skin, resulting in a natural, refreshed look.
- You can choose smaller, "mini" procedures that fit your budget and downtime.
Candidates
Candidates for a face lift include those with:
- A saggy, loose neck
- The formation of jowls
- Excess skin or fat on the lower portions of the face
- Wrinkles, particularly on the lower part of the face
General Procedure
The standard procedure for a face lift commonly involves making incisions inside the hairline, following the contour in front of the ear, and continuing under the earlobe to the backside of the ear. The tissues underneath the skin experience a major portion of the tightening. The excessive skin layer can then be trimmed and gently laid into position without tension. If the neck line has an aging appearance, an additional incision is made in the chin crease, and liposuction, along with muscle tightening, is performed. The key to a good scar is attention to detail at the closure time. We close all skin in 2 layers; we use one layer of support, and one layer of very fine sutures to reduce the chance of scarring.
Recovery Process
One day after surgery we remove your bandage. Sutures are removed 6 to 8 days after surgery. Typically, bruising is not very prevalent in the face due to the tumescent anesthesia technique, although bruising in the neck can occur. People who can work from home usually take 2 to 3 days off.
