Meet Pierre F. Lapaine, MD
Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Lapaine is an aesthetic fellowship trained plastic surgeon who specializes in all aspects of aesthetic surgery, including face, breast, and body contouring. His favorite procedures involve facial rejuvenation, including facelifts, eyelid lifts, as well as other less invasive procedures.
Additionally, Dr. Lapaine specializes in body contouring with high-definition liposuction and fat transfer, including the buttocks (commonly referred to as the Brazilian Butt Lift) and the breast. Fat transfer to the breast, either alone or in combination with implants, can be a very powerful way to get natural, long-lasting improvements to the appearance of the breast.

Education & Training
Dr. Lapaine did his undergraduate degree at McGill University in Montreal. There, he studied kinesiology, where he developed a keen interest in anatomy. This was when he became very interested in one day becoming a surgeon. Fun fact: Dr. Lapaine’s honors project involved testing hockey helmets at Bauer research headquarters! Following this, he attended medical school at Western University in London, Ontario. He discovered quite early on that plastic surgery was his passion.
Dr. Lapaine was very fortunate to complete his plastic surgery education at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, which is considered one of the best training programs anywhere in North America. Here, he performed thousands of procedures in all aspects of plastic surgery, including craniofacial surgery, breast reconstruction, burns, hand surgery, and, of course, aesthetic surgery. He completed the rigorous board examinations in Canada and became board certified in plastic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is currently board eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
This passion for aesthetic surgery drove Dr. Lapaine to pursue a further year of sub-specialized training in New York. He was selected for one of the highly competitive fellowships endorsed by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Here, he performed almost 1000 additional aesthetic cases, including procedures on the face, breast, and body. It allowed him to learn about new technologies to provide patients with some of the most innovative techniques available.
Dr. Lapaine’s Philosophy
Dr. Lapaine’s primary goal is to establish a strong, long-term relationship with his patients. Plastic surgery is a journey, and it is important that both the patient and the surgeon trust each other before going on that journey together. He wants to get to know you, your goals, and your interests so that you and he can work together to find the best way to help you feel like the best version of yourself. Sometimes this can mean more drastic options like surgery, which can produce significant changes quickly. Sometimes it may mean less invasive procedures to help make meaningful, more minor improvements until the time comes that surgery is the best option (if it ever happens at all). Every treatment plan is completely customized for every patient so that you can look and feel your best in the way that is most important to you.

A Conversation with Dr. Lapaine
I grew up in the small-town Goderich, Ontario, Canada, located on the shores of Lake Huron. Michigan always felt like a bit of a second home for me.
We frequently visited to go shopping, as a weekend getaway, but most importantly, to go to Lions games!
Initially, I became interested in plastic surgery because it involves such technical precision with a comprehensive skill set, allowing us to operate everywhere from head to toe. It is truly a blend of science and art. No two cases are the same because no two patients are the same, and this has allowed me to never be bored, always be learning, and continue to love my job every single day!
My favorite part of my job is being able to make my patients happy and feel their absolute best. It is such a privilege when a patient chooses to allow me to be part of the surgical journey. Being a part of the patient’s process from the consultation through to the final result is incredibly rewarding. Seeing patients happy with their results is the reason I do this and why I wouldn’t want any other job in the world!
I think the most important part of being a successful doctor is good communication. I work very hard to communicate thoroughly with patients so that we can both fully understand each other.
Outside of work, you can often find me with my wife, Sari, and our cats Boris, Olga, and Penelope.
I love to travel and explore new restaurants and wines. I’m planning to study to become a certified sommelier in the next few years. I also love all kinds of sports, including cycling, golf, tennis, and, of course, watching the Detroit Lions!
What really amazed me about aesthetic surgery was the incredible transformation you can have on not just someone’s appearance but, more importantly, their self-confidence.
Seeing aesthetic surgeons have this profound, long-lasting impact on their patients’ lives really solidified that it was the right choice for me.
My wife and I spent my entire residency living in different cities, including in different countries, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a very challenging time, and I’m excited to finally be settling down in the same place and starting the next phase of our lives.
Kind, patient, compassionate
I’ve been fortunate to have a number of incredible mentors throughout my training. They have taught me to always pay attention to the details and to find ways to keep learning and improving every single day.
Becoming a plastic surgeon has really taught me to pay attention to all the little details that it takes to do something and achieve the best possible result. Every detail matters.
My goal is to spend the time to develop a trusting relationship with my patients. Plastic surgery is a journey that has its ups and downs throughout the process. Patients need to know that their surgeon is going to be with them every step of the way to get them to the final result in the safest, most effective way possible.
