Michigan Dermal Fillers for Men at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery
Dermal fillers for men have quickly become a popular non-surgical treatment to create a sculpted and sharper profile as well as reduce the appearance of tired-looking eyes, sagging skin, and dynamic wrinkles. Additionally, treatments require minimal downtime, so you can resume your schedule without missing a beat.
Our skilled injectors at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery use hyaluronic-acid-based dermal fillers, including Restylane® and Juvéderm®, to achieve a more masculine profile by accentuating the cheekbones and defining the chin and jawline.

What Are Dermal Fillers, and How Do They Work?
Dermal fillers are injectable gel treatments made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found throughout the body that helps maintain the health and suppleness of the skin. When injected beneath the skin’s surface, dermal fillers can add definition to facial features. For men, fillers can achieve more contoured cheekbones and a chiseled jawline, visibly improve facial symmetry, and redefine more masculine features.
At Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery, we offer two types of FDA-approved dermal fillers: Juvéderm® and Restylane® by Galderma. Both brands offer temporary results lasting between six months to two years, making fillers the ideal treatment for minimal upkeep.
Why Are More Men Turning to Dermal Fillers?
New statistics have revealed that men are among the fastest-growing consumers of cosmetic procedures, turning to aesthetic treatments to improve their self-confidence and enhance their self-image. In a single year, nearly 100,000 men received filler injections.
A primary reason for these growing statistics is due to the aging along the contour of the jawline. Dermal fillers can help smooth out the channel in front of the jowls, make the chin protrude a little more, and reduce the appearance of a receding or double chin. Others pursue dermal fillers to create a more masculine look without surgery or downtime.
Another reason more men are turning to dermal fillers is that men are often concerned about signs of aging. Many men seek anti-aging treatments to help reduce the appearance of tear troughs underneath the eyes, smooth deep facial wrinkles, and increase volume in hollowed areas of the face, such as the cheekbones or around the mouth. With impressive results, dermal fillers often increase a patient’s self-confidence in their personal and professional lives.
What Are Common Treatment Areas for Men?
An angular, contoured jawline has long been deemed an attractive, masculine facial feature. However, age and genetics can often cause the posterior jaw to have a soft, sloped appearance. Jawline filler creates a more defined posterior jaw and contoured side profile, reducing the appearance of jowls and balancing an asymmetrical jawline.

Dermal Filler Recovery
After your dermal filler treatment, you’ll be advised to avoid strenuous activities, alcohol consumption, and sun exposure for the first 24 hours. Patients should also avoid touching or massaging the area to avoid spreading the dermal filler and impeding results. Mild bruising and swelling are normal and should resolve over the next few hours to days. Patients can return to work that day or the following.
We provide Arnica Montana gel to our patients to help speed up healing and diminish the appearance of bruising. Other than limitations on activities, there is no recovery process necessary after dermal fillers.

What Are Other Types of Dermal Fillers for Men?
In addition to Juvéderm® and Restylane® products, we also offer our male patients Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid filler. Sculptra is an FDA-approved collagen stimulator dermal filler that works with your body to promote collagen production and restore the skin’s underlying structure. Encouraging the body’s collagen supply helps gradually restore facial volume and smooth folds and wrinkles for longer-lasting results.
Treatments to Combine with Dermal Fillers for Optimal Results
Liquid Facelift
A liquid facelift is a non-surgical option for men that combines Botox® with dermal fillers. Botox® is used to combat dynamic wrinkles, the lines that appear when the muscles are contracted, including frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Dermal fillers restore volume to the skin and help diminish the appearance of static wrinkles and lines caused by skin laxity. A liquid facelift is ideal for patients interested in total facial rejuvenation without surgical intervention.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels for men are ideal for those interested in addressing common skin imperfections, including sunspots, enlarged pores, acne or acne scarring, fine lines, and dull skin. A chemical peel involves a carefully formulated chemical solution being applied to the skin and left on for 5 to 10 minutes. The chemical solution gently exfoliates the top layer of skin, resulting in smooth, younger skin underneath.
