Which Hair Transplant Procedure Is Right for Me?

It’s easy to take your hair for granted when you have a head full of it, but once it starts to fall out, most people really want to get it back. Hair restoration can bring back your hair after hair loss or thinning. Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery offers the latest hair restoration techniques, bringing countless patients a full head of hair. Once you get your hair back, we promise you won’t take it for granted ever again.

Hair transplantation is one of the most effective options for restoring a full head of hair. Explore your options below or contact Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation.

The Different Types of Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation takes hair from an area with fullness and surgically places it in an area with hair loss. These transferred hair follicles will integrate into the scalp after they are transplanted, growing just like natural hair.

Hair transplantation can be very effective if the right methods and techniques are used. The most popular forms of hair transplantation include:

  • FUT – FUT (or follicular unit transplantation, aka the strip method) removes a long strip of tissue from the back of the head. This strip is broken down into individual hair follicles for transplantation. FUT allows for quick harvesting of many grafts but can leave a long linear scar at the donor site. FUT is more invasive than other hair transplantation methods.
  • Manual FUE – FUE (or follicular unit extraction) removes individual hair follicles for transplantation. With manual FUE, each graft is carefully removed by hand by a hair transplantation provider. This method yields stunning results but is time-intensive.
  • Automated FUE – Automated FUE uses a specialized device to extract hair follicles. This method is much faster than manual FUE but can be hard on the hair follicles. NeoGraft and ARTAS are two examples of automated FUE systems.

FUE: Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery’s Preferred Hair Restoration Option

FUE is the gold standard in hair restoration, providing results that are the most natural-looking of all hair restoration methods. With FUE, patients can wear their hair in any style with no long scar. Dr. Pramit Malhotra is a skilled hair transplant surgeon who only utilizes FUE methods. FUE is generally the preferred method for hair transplantation unless there is a specific advantage offered by FUT.

Which Hair Restoration Option Is Right for You?
