FAQ
  • Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the small town of Decatur, Indiana, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

  • Tell us about your education and training.

I am a first-generation college student and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. I then went directly to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. Nashville was a wonderful place to spend four years learning medicine! I returned closer to home to complete my plastic surgery training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbror, where I spent seven years honing my skills before finally completing training with a 6-month cosmetic fellowship in Chicago.

  • What type of surgical procedure do you specialize in?

I specialize in breast, body, and labiaplasty plastic surgery procedures. My niche procedures currently are tummy tucks, breast reductions and lifts, mommy makeovers, and labiaplasties.

  • What is your philosophy at your practice?

Our overall practice philosophy is 'the difference is in the details.' Personally, I take this very seriously as I do believe that the fine details regarding surgical planning and execution of an operation lead to major differences in the results that a patient experiences.

  • Why did you become a plastic surgeon?

I became a plastic surgeon because I love the challenge of being able to operate from head to toe and tailoring every patient’s surgical plan to their desired result. There is no one-size-fits-all in plastic surgery, and it is a unique field in which I can be artistic yet exact.

  • What do you like most about being a plastic surgeon?

I really enjoy taking care of patients, and I love operating. Everyone at work knows the OR is my 'happy place.' I do my best to make sure every one of my patients knows that no matter what, I want to do what is best for them and get them the results they expect. I am never happy until they are happy.

  • What methods did you employ to accomplish your goal of becoming a successful doctor?

Dedication, endless hours studying, and focusing on my goals were my main recipe for success. I was unwavering in my pursuit of getting a scholarship to attend college and then spent as many hours at the library that were necessary to perform at the top of my class to get into medical school. But don’t worry, I managed to have a little fun along the way.

  • What do you like to do in your leisure time when you are not operating or seeing patients?

My leisure time is spent with my two kids and husband. These days that means doing a lot of chauffeuring to take them to activities, cheering from the sidelines, and laundry. I also always have a future house project on my mind that I like to plan.

  • What epiphany did you experience while studying to become a surgeon that led you to choose aesthetic surgery?

During my plastic surgery residency, I realized that I really enjoyed aesthetic surgery because it demands near perfection and really listening and paying attention to what patients want. This really appealed to my perfectionist tendencies and has been a wonderful career to date.

  • What setbacks or obstacles did you encounter while pursuing your goals?

Plastic surgery residency is long and grueling. There were plenty of late nights on call where I questioned if surgery was the right field, but fortunately, those moments quickly passed. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything else for a career. I think I enjoy operating even more now with each passing year!

  • What three words best describe you?

    Mother, loyal and honest.

  • How did your journey to be a plastic surgeon change you internally?

I am more comfortable with setting boundaries and am not afraid to say no.

  • Why have you chosen to specialize in only breast, body, and labiaplasty procedures?

I strongly believe that by specializing in only a few procedures, I have become a better surgeon. I am able to hone my skills and ensure consistent, safe results every time.

  • What are you known for as a plastic surgeon?

I am known for making natural-looking belly buttons during tummy tucks and for paying careful attention during surgery to achieve thin, nearly invisible scars. Patients respect me for my honest approach and for always putting their safety and what is best for them first.
