How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon: A Five-Point Plan

  1. Website photos vs. Instagram: Website photos should be shot with the same background and lighting.  If you see great results on the website, that is a good sign.  Instagram photos take advantage of weight loss, lighting, and angles to make a surgeons’ results look better. Don’t be fooled.
  2. Get into the “weeds” with reviews: The majority of reviews should be good and in your procedure of interest. There are always a few negative reviews for surgeons that perform a very high volume of surgery.  Look for detailed reviews that talk about different aspects of the care. Your outcome is dependent on a great team, not just a great surgeon.
  3. Credentials: Every surgeon professes to be certified by something or to be heavily awarded. A great education from well-known institutions leads to a thoughtful careful surgeon.
  4. High-functioning office: A well-run office will often indicate a smooth surgical process for you. The team and the surgeon are critical.
  5. Weekly experience: Most surgeons dabble in too many procedures. A surgeon should do the exact procedure you want at a minimum on a weekly basis.
