Botox with Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery

If you’re concerned that your wrinkles and fine lines are making you look aged, tense, or tired, BOTOX Cosmetic® may be perfect for you. Our board-certified Michigan plastic surgeons and experienced nurse injector are BOTOX specialists and have helped countless Ann Arbor women and men refresh and rejuvenate their appearance with this simple, safe treatment.

Frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead creases, lip lines, marionette lines — you’ve heard the terms and perhaps seen these lines on your own face, but do you know that most of these kinds of lines and wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contraction of certain facial muscles? By inactivating those muscles, BOTOX can lead to smoother-looking skin, helping you look more well-rested, relaxed, and youthful.

BOTOX is widely available in Michigan, but not everyone administers it well. Although it can be a simple procedure, outstanding aesthetic results require precision and skill to avoid an unnatural look or unwanted complications. At Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery, BOTOX is only performed by our board-certified plastic surgeons or experienced nurse injector. Our approach to BOTOX for all of our Michigan patients is skilled and sensible: We believe that the ideal treatment achieves a balance between softening wrinkles and preserving your own natural facial expression.

Learn More About Our Approach

BOTOX is the most popular cosmetic treatment in the world, a status it enjoys because of its ease of use, safety record, and natural-looking results. If you are considering BOTOX Cosmetic, Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery encourages you to do your homework and choose a trusted provider. Since so many people want this injectable, it seems that everyone from dentists to salons have started offering it, making it available far and wide—though not always from injectors who focus solely on beauty and aesthetics.

The truth is that BOTOX Cosmetic is so much more than a few injections. Each patient is different, with unique facial anatomy, wrinkles, and desired outcomes. In addition, many patients often want an overall refreshed appearance, which typically involves more than just the application of BOTOX Cosmetic. Dermal fillers, chemical peels, and a variety of other treatments may be used to great effect, with results that complement each other and enhance a patient’s natural beauty. The providers at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery bring years of experience, as well as a focus on aesthetics and beauty, to every session, demonstrating an understanding of what treatments will best work together to safely deliver beautiful results to each individual. Whether you undergo treatment with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Malhotra or Dr. Ballard, or our experienced nurse injector, know that you are in excellent hands at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery.

The Procedure

When you come for your BOTOX appointment at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery, your provider will discuss your areas of concern with you and develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. They will review how many units are planned and the expected cost. The medication itself is injected using special, ultra-thin needles to minimize discomfort. For their first BOTOX treatment, most patients are pleasantly surprised it was easier and less painful than they expected.

Before and After

Your BOTOX will take effect approximately 7-14 days after your injection, at which time you will notice less movement and your wrinkles softening and disappearing. Results usually last 3-4 months, at which time you would return for a repeat injection to maintain results. For stubborn, deep wrinkles, it often takes several treatments to see full results.

Best Injection Sites

BOTOX Cosmetic treatments may improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face. BOTOX works by relaxing the muscles responsible for facial expression. While your face is one of your most prominent means of non-verbal communication, expressions like the furrowing of the brows can lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Relaxing these muscles can virtually erase these lines. Younger patients are now also using BOTOX treatments to prevent these lines from forming in the first place.

The eyes, forehead, upper lip, and nose are among the most responsive injection sites. Educated and skilled BOTOX specialists like those at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery can even lift the tail of your eyebrow a few millimeters without surgery by injecting BOTOX at specific points. BOTOX can also be used for facial contouring by injecting the jaw muscles to slim and narrow a square jaw.

BOTOX treatments address many problem areas that can make people look aged, tense, or tired:

  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Forehead wrinkles or creases
  • Crow’s feet around the outer eye corners
  • Vertical lines on the upper lip
  • Prominent jaw muscles (Masseter), which give the face a square look
  • Bands along the neck

These areas can be made smooth again with BOTOX via a straightforward procedure at  Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery.

Is Botox Safe for Our Patients?

BOTOX is perfectly safe for most candidates. Prior to your treatment, your provider will review the risks and benefits of the procedure. Patients who elect to receive BOTOX in our Michigan offices understand that it is not a permanent procedure, and they may have to return for repeated treatments to achieve their desired result. Also, since it is a non-surgical treatment, patients should have realistic expectations of what BOTOX can and cannot do for them. To discuss your individual situation, schedule an appointment with any of our  BOTOX specialists at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery.

Botox FAQ

Botox recovery is minimal – there is no downtime! We recommend that patients refrain from strenuous exercise for 4 hours after injection. The Botox will begin to take effect 5-7 days after treatment.

You can return to work the day of your injection treatments. There is a risk for bruising and swelling, but this can be covered up with makeup as needed. Patients can also ice the area to reduce any swelling.

Prior to your injection treatment, you should avoid alcohol, NSAIDS, and aspirin. Following injection, icing the area, avoiding raising your heart rate, and using Arnica can reduce bruising. For significantly stubborn bruising, an IPL treatment can resolve the discoloration more quickly.

In many ways, Botox and Dysport are like Coke and Pepsi. They are both neurotoxins that act to temporarily freeze muscles of the face that contribute to the development of wrinkles. At the molecular level, Botox and Dysport are slightly different in their composition. Both Botox and Dysport are FDA approved for treating the glabellar area. Dysport may take effect slightly quicker than Botox and may diffuse more in the tissues, but often it is a patient’s personal preference for which they like the best.

Like other injectable solutions, Botox has per-unit pricing. The more medication you need, the more your treatment will cost. Compared to surgical treatments, Botox is significantly less costly because it is a non-surgical intervention. We’ll provide an estimate for your treatment costs during your consultation.

Male Botox in Ann Arbor

Men love Botox, too. Indeed, these quick, painless injections are among our top procedures for male patients. In recent years, this injectable treatment has become increasingly popular with men who want to retain their youthful good looks without looking overdone. Male Botox has become so sought-after that it’s earned the playful nickname “Brotox.”

Botox treatment for men is identical to the approach we use for women. We inject small amounts of the product to help relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Men love this treatment for crow’s feet, “11 lines,” and brow furrows.

If you’re planning to get Botox, choose an injector who regularly treats men. The injector’s skill plays a critical role in determining your results. Botox for men ensures paying attention to subtleties to enhance masculinity.

Botox for Men in Ann Arbor FAQs

Botox is a popular treatment for men in Ann Arbor and around the U.S. Over the last two decades, Botox use in men has increased by 403%. Men now account for approximately 6% of all cosmetic Botox injections. Dr. Malhotra and Dr. Ballard treat many men at our practice.

There’s no such thing as an ideal age for Botox. Come in for a consultation to find out if you’re ready to start treatment. Many men start preventive Botox injections as early as 25, with others choosing to begin in their 40s or 50s.

Botox results in men last for about four months. With regularly scheduled injections, men can enjoy a refreshed appearance all year long.
